  3. liaison officer in Washington 1949-51, when
  4. he was asked to resign. Named in 1963 as
  5. having warned Guy Burgess and Donald Maclean
  6. (similarly double agents) that their
  7. activities were known, he fled to the USSR,
  8. and became a Soviet citizen and general in
  9. the KGB. A fourth member of the ring was
  10. Anthony Blunt.
